Two months ago we posted that Gawker was filing for bankruptcy and would be put up for auction. The TV network and digital publisher, Univision, has won the auction and has agreed to pay $135 million for the bankrupt Gawker Media. The deal includes all 7 of Gawker media’s sites, including Gawker.com.
Nick Denton, the founder of Gawker, released a statement regarding the sale: “Gawker Media Group has agreed this evening to sell our business and popular brands to Univision, one of America’s largest media companies. I am pleased that our employees are protected and will continue their work under new ownership — disentangled from the legal campaign against the company.”
