The FTC has released a new report this week on the credit reporting process. Opposed to previous reports, this one took all components of the credit reporting process into account; lenders, consumers, credit reporting agencies, and the Fair Isaac Corporation, the company which provides the FICO score. In the study the FTC states that one in four consumers identified errors on their credit report. The report also details how the dispute process, the process by which consumers can attempt to remove an incorrect statement on their credit report, more often than not takes place in countries like India, the Phillipines, and South America. In some cases the people verifying the disputes had no power to change the credit score or even communicate with someone who could.
