Bailed Out Executives Still Receiving Generous Compensation

A treasury watchdog known as SIGTARP (Special Inspector General for the Troubled Asset Relief Program), is reporting that top executives at companies that received taxpayer bailouts continue to receive generous compensation packages with the government’s approval.  The report found that 68 of 69 executives at companies such as Ally Financial, American International Group, and General Motors received annual compensation of at least $1,000,000.  In response Patricia Geohegan, acting special master for TARP executive compensation has said that the compensation packages at these firms is consistent to those received by executives at other firms.
