Ford Family Considers Taking Company Private

(August 25th, 2006 under Automobile Industry )
The Way Forward campaign to save Ford has been changed since it was first rolled out; however more changes are possible, according to a recent USA Today article. Two new possibilities are supposedly being considered: one an alliance with Nissan (and its owner, the French company Renault) and second, taking the company private. The first option requires that the talks between Nisan and GM fall through and the second requires dealing with the Ford family's control of the voting shares of the company. So, both are simply interesting speculation at this point. ""The family is willing to look at anything," USA Today quoted the source as saying. Top executives have said they are looking at every option available to turn Ford around, including selling off brands such as Jaguar, entering into partnerships with other automakers, slashing its work force and closing more plants, the article said." Here is a link to a Schwab article on these subjects: http://q1.schwab.com/content/rb/2006/08/24/1254972.html Mike
