Bankrupt Delta offers unique compensation plan

(April 20th, 2006 under Announcements)
Delta Airlines, the nation's third largest airlines is asking its employees to volunteer to clean aircraft at night on their own time. Delta is willing to compensate the volunteers for their time. They offer a free T-shirt, reward points good for merchandise and a chance to show pride in the airline. Employees are "booing" asked to work 4 and 8 hour shifts to clean interior windows and walls and cleaning lavatories. The first "Clean Day" was scheduled for Delta's Atlanta hub on April 20 and more than 300 employees volunteered. The event was canceled after a security alert hampered operations at the airport. Daniel Petree, dean of the college of business at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, said that following pay cuts and the bitter struggle with the pilots union, this idea may rub employees the wrong way.
