FTC sues ‘debt elimination’ program

(March 28th, 2006 under Announcements)

The Federal Trade Commission and the Washington State Attorney General have filed suit to stop Debt Solutions Inc., and three other telemarketers from charging consumers for a “debt elimination program” that promised to reduce credit card interest rates and save consumers thousands of dollars. The agencies allege the businesses marketed themselves to consumers over the Web and via unsolicited phone calls (including calls to people listed on the federal “Do Not Call” registry), promising consumers far more than they ultimately delivered.
