Remarkable Video of Landmark Tower Implosion
(March 27th, 2006 under Fun Stuff )
Fort Worth's Landmark Tower was imploded on Saturday, March 18, 2006. The 30-story former office tower was built in 1954 and had been vacant for more than a decade. Located at Seventh and Houston streets, this towering structure was located just two blocks from our law office.
XTO Energy has owned the building for two years and plans on using the land for parking once it is cleared. In the meantime, workers will begin the tedious task of sorting and removing the steel, aluminum, concrete and other debris, most of which will be recycled.
Several dozen windows were broken in four nearby buildings, including the Bob R. Simpson Building, the Petroleum Building, the Fort Worth Club Building and TXU's building. Insurance will cover the costs of replacing the broken windows which glass company crews immediately began repairing on Saturday. There were no other reports of damage.
