Debtors Really Are Broke
(February 27th, 2006 under New Bankruptcy Law )Here is an article out of The Boston Globe which confirms a “factoid” that we already knew: that those individuals who seek bankruptcy protection are really broke and not trying to “rip off the system.” Of course the new amendments (which affect individuals primarily, but not exclusively) were passed based on the notion that individual filers had an ability to pay their debts and were filing bankruptcy as a way to beak the system, keeping cash which should have gone to pay their debts (credit cards) — well this report confirms that this was simply a faulty premise.
