Robert Blake Files for Bankruptcy Protection
First, Robert Blake's wife was murdered, then he was found "not guilty" of the crime. Next came the civil suit by his wife's family (different Court, different burden of proof -- civil not criminal case) resulting in a finding that Blake intentionally caused her death. Damages were awarded in the amount of 30 million dollars. And then there are Blake's unpaid taxes (2.5 million, state and federal) in addition to unpaid attorneys fees. So now Blake files for bankruptcy protection. Because the largest claims are taxes or related to the judgment against Blake, they are likley nondischargeable. Section 523 of the Bankruptcy Code lists exceptions to the discharge, and in this case subsection A(6) which provides that any debt for willfull and malicious injury by the debtor to another entitiy is not discharged.
Because of the nature of the debts, they will have to be worked out in a Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
