So far, fewer personal bankruptcies under new law
(November 22nd, 2005 under New Bankruptcy Law )
There's an interesting article in the Washington Post today. Check it out while you can. Apparently, the number of personal bankruptcies filed before the new code provisions went into effect October 17 was larger than expected, and the subsequent drop-off is bigger than had been predicted.
According to the article, last week only 3,600 personal bankruptcies were filed nationwide, compared to a typical average of about 30,000. And that figure was up from the previous couple of weeks. In the week before October 17, individuals filed almost 480,000 bankruptcy petitions.
