State Bar Convention

(June 28th, 2005 under Announcements)

Last Friday, all of our lawyers were able to attend a morning session of the State Bar of Texas Convention which was dedicated to bankruptcy topics. First up, the annual meeting of the now two year old bankruptcy section of the State Bar, followed by several interesting CLE sessions. It used to be that we bankruptcy types were part of the business section of the State Bar and now (at long last) we have our own section. At any rate, it was an excellent morning and a great chance to visit with other bankruptcy lawyers from around the state. Lunch was the highlight (surprised?) — we listened to a speaker, author and reporter Kurt Eichenwald who has recently written a book entitled Conspiracy of Fools: A True Story. This is a great book about Enron. His theory, briefly, is that Enron was not brought down by the illegality of the acts committed but instead by the company’s untenable business practices. I am in the midst of reading this book now and it is excellent. Here is a link if you are interested in getting a copy for yourself:
